Lavazzuoli, gateway of the mountain

This abandoned village is located in the higher portion of Val Brevenna, a wild and narrow valley. From Casella, a small town in the neighborhood of Genova, take the provincial road to Val Brevenna and drive as far as Piancassina, where the motor road ends. Then go up, by a short and pretty steep path, in the direction of 'Monte Antola'. In roughly 20 minutes you will reach Lavazzuoli, a large group of old houses, in fairly good state, clung to the slope. The village is neat and clean and, expecially in winter, looks like asleep.
In a hour walking from Lavazzuoli, you can reach the top of Monte Antola, one of the most beautiful mountain near Genova. Its name comes from the Greek word "antos", meaning flower, because of the rich blooming one can admire in spring.
Tonno, Senarega, with its church and its castle, and Porcile (*), from which one can admire a magnificent view toward the sea, are other interesting and typical hamlets in the area.
